I’ve created and delivered hundreds of presentations. As a creative director my job isn’t to merely present — it’s to persuade. This comes through largely in the delivery but I confess, I do love building a beautiful deck.
Minnesota boasts the second largest and most active AIGA chapter. Design Camp is the marquee three day event held each year at Madden’s on Gull Lake. When asked to lead a workshop, I wanted to take a unique angle on designing for interaction. Naturally I turned to the world of quantum mechanics… Seriously, there are some interesting parallels.
AIGA hosts a portfolio review event each year that is several days long and draws students from Minnesota and the surrounding states. Along with studio tours and portfolio critiques as the main event there are a few presentations. I’ve reviewed portfolios a number of times so it was fun to be asked to present. I presented what I hoped would be a provocative topic: Four Things That Don’t Exist and How They’ll Influence Your Career. Check out the video to see what I think about truth, time, balance and perfection. Oh, and be warned, I threw in a flames-to-unicorn transition — don’t try that at home kids.
